Jaye Kim’s ceramic Cup and Saucer are emblematic of themes of domesticity implicit in her work. In turning a pair of objects she interacts with daily into a widely out of scale sculpture, Jaye Kim reimagines the ordinary into moments where deeply saturated and textured glaze can embody a sense of the personal.

Jaye Kim is a Korean-American ceramic artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching emerge to tell a story about our everyday domestic objects, highlighted by delicate lustres and stunning, saturated glaze work.
Jaye Kim is a graduated of the School of Visual Arts, where she studied animation. Her work has been shown at Egg Collective, Fisher Parrish Gallery, Irl Gallery, Marta and Ed. Varie, and Salter Room/Picture House.
