Bijeen

Ballena is part of The Podium Series; a set of lamps made by Bijeen between 2020-2021. The idea behind these series is to explore the beauty of rough, ready-made industrial materials. In this piece, they take a jaw locking plier as the main piece of the lamp. Everything is assembled around the plier: its 10 mm diameter back bolt sets the size for the other elements.

Bijeen is a a multidisciplinary design platform founded by architects Marina Lladó and Enric Bultó.

Bijeen arises from the question of how to understand the design process of the 21st century. Today’s world is non-linear, with no definite boundaries and ambiguous. Reality is made up of elements that are no longer static or differentiated, but mixed and fluid. A wide range of parameters and influences converge on and interfere with the design process.

Bijeen escapes the ideology of the universal and reductive, quite the opposite, as they opt for evolution and the experimental process, with a subjective materialization and an open end.
