Description/
Swirl is a light fixture that visualises the flow of water produced by a vortex and its time axis. Inspired by primitive forms of illumination, it combines natural phenomena with manmade elements. Swirl seeks not to fully control water, but rather actively take advantage of the uncertainty of its internal flow in order to capture its beauty and profundity. Swirl offers a means of proposing sustainable production methods and forms of expression that seek to explore coexistence with nature, and an alternative way of engaging with the natural environment in today’s human-centric modern society.
By generating a rapid stream of water in a large tank, molten wax is poured inside and hardened, resulting in a unique, sculptural form utilized as a mold for a lost-wax casting method creating the final aluminum structure. Despite being a static product, it presents an untamed and wild presence that is reverent of nature. With a complex production process and minimalist form created by vortex force, gravitational pull, and buoyancy, it is visually engaging yet also completely circular and recyclable — with the exception of removable lighting components.
