Charlotte Kingsnorth
designer
Charlotte Kingsnorth cuts through traditional craft techniques and hacks into industrial processes as a type of art form. She is interested in the deconstruction of archetypes, dismantling the identity of an object and cross-pollinating typologies and methods of making. Kingsnorth likes to carve personality with the materials she works with and ingrain a sense of permanency with these anthropomorphic transitions. The conflict between functionality and aesthetics feeds her designs, where she explores the space between juxtapositions such as soft and malleable, rigid and cold. In 2019, she presented her first major show with The New Craftsmen in London, who commissioned her to produce a collection of rudimentary bronze furniture based on her exploration into lichen-like patination techniques. She looks forward to presenting a new body of work for a solo exhibition in Shanghai later this year. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art’s Design Products programme and now runs her London based practice, working with clients, galleries and establishments including The Bill Gates, Foundation, Fendi, SHOWstudio, Christies, The Crafts Council, The V&A, Holon Design Museum in Israel, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, and shown in design fairs at Design Miami, London, Paris and Milan.
