Description/
Henry Green (1844-1931) joined the Shaker community in Alfred, Maine, when he was fifteen years old. He went on to become a schoolteacher, business agent, and fine woodworker, making furniture for the Alfred community in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. This is one of a handful of known oval storage boxes created by Elder Henry. All identical in size, the boxes are painted in a spectrum of complementary tones: one box is natural, one deep red, one blue, one green, and one yellow. This box, in an excellent state of preservation, adds a vibrant bittersweet to the known array. Maple and pine pile copper rivets and brads, original surface.
