Riad Table

The Riad Table was conceived on a trip to Marrakesh, inspired by the cement tiles made in Mediterranean countries in the early 20th century—which were themselves created as an industrial response to traditional mosaic floors. Riad seeks to enhance the traditional manufacturing process and graphic motifs used to form the hydraulically pressed tiles. The idea behind this piece is to decontextualize this construction material; the hydraulic tile, by isolating and objectifying it. The result is a table for indoor and outdoor use whose hexagonal shape offers the possibility to reproduce a “raised floor;” combining as many pieces as desired, emblazoned with traditional designs found from the Alhambra of Granada to the Great Mosque of Damascus.
