Since his first stay in Vallauris, also known as “the city of hundred potters”, Pablo Picasso remained amazed by the freedom and expressive nature of the ceramic medium. In the aim to satisfy his insatiable creative curiosity, the artist entered into a new collaboration with the Ramié couple, founder of the Madoura workshop, during the year 1947. Through the exploration of a new medium, the painter transcribes his most iconic subjects, manufacturing a wonderful universe filled with forms and textures. Picasso’s works on ceramics express a fundamental living testimony, a constant conversation that demands a contribution from those who, including him, try to penetrate the creative essence and the elaboration of the forms.
