The Merge Series presents artistic furniture and paintings inspired by stone stacks often found on Korea’s mountain passes. It is an old Korean tradition for good fortune to carefully balance stones into stacks. The structure of the pieces is made of steel which is covered by layers and layers of ‘Ott’, traditional natural tree lacquer. The lacquering, sanding, and polishing process is very labor intensive and takes months to complete. This lengthy repetitive work results in fabulously glowing and blended colors overlapping with each other in harmony.
