The Topographic Memories collection is rooted in artist Raphael Navot’s ongoing exploration of topographies and thegeological history of materials. Resulting from a three-year-long collaboration between Melanie Courbet, Raphael Navot, and Les Ateliers Saint-Jacques, the collection is deeply informed by Navot’s design vocabulary and his longstanding fascination for traditional crafts, the raw materials, their essence, and their stories. The designs are the result of an in-depth dialogue with the craftsmen of Les Ateliers Saint-Jacques. Immersed in their work, Navot soughtinspiration through extensive research into geological maps, topographies, and prints. Reflecting on the highlyspecialized techniques of Ateliers Saint-Jacques, he ultimately chose a section cut that would be both facettedand enhanced by the artisans’ carving, casting, and finishing expertise. Whether carved in stone or cast in bronze, each piece is a sculptural interpretation of topographic landscapes with emphasized details and textures that highlight the artisans’ dexterity.
