Description/
This important u-shaped side table, designed by Marcel Coard in 1935, depicts the transcention of the historicism and modernism that dominated the Art Deco style, and ultimatley reflects the concepts and aesthetics of the early twentieth- century avant-garde.
Coard is widely known for the furniture he designed for Jacques Doucet, who’s Interior and collection practice was a source of Inspiration to Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent. Coard, like many of his other fellow interior designers and artists, designed his objects so they met the exact wishes of his clients, and revolutionized the french interiors. Each piece in his collection is unique. This table is very special as it was designed for Paul Cocteau’s Champgault manor. His designs continue to achieve suprising high numbers in auctions.
