This relay ebony baton is an object with a strong symbolic. This «Go Between» leaves the sport’s stakes to reach only the sharing. It hides in its heart a little secret cavity which can contain private elements, to keep or transmit them.

Go Between object designed by Matali Crasset from our collection. The MICA Gallery publishes contemporary pieces born from the collaboration between artists and craftsmen in Brittany. The pieces are created exclusively for the gallery in limited editions. Michaël Cheneau, director of the gallery, invited Matali Crasset to imagine an object from a stock of ebony from Gabon at a wood turner’s in response or in reaction to the idea that a contemporary object can carry a symbolism or have virtues that go beyond its form, in the same way as a liturgical, apotropaic or tribal object. It is a theme present in several projects of the MICA gallery which explores the survival or revitalization of traditions (from here or elsewhere) in the objects produced today, in the social, economic and cultural context that we live in. It is a question, as always, of questioning a possible use value, of putting it in relation or in conflict with the form. The object refers to a personal use and or to a collective use, amulet, totem.
