How does demineralized, pure water taste to you?
Physically pure water that contains nothing but water molecules does not taste good to the human palate. It doesn’t taste good because pure water doesn’t contain anything that nourishes the body. Pure water exists only as a man-made artifact.

The water that we have been drinking since the beginning of time is water refined by running through forests and earth, and passing through small cracks in rocks and minerals. This water contains many minerals, impurities.
This delicious, mineral-rich water has been valued through the ages.
Fountains or springs are where such water flows out from the earth.

I create my sculpture “Fountain” using a variety of materials and using many different processes.
Clay. Plaster. Silver. Glass.
Melting with heat. Grinding. Polishing.
What is important to me when I confront the variety of materials and work with them is not to fight the materials or the work process. Instead, I befriend them, I let them be what they are, and give them respect.

As I continue my explorations, it is the unexpected that brings awareness of the past and present. As “a whisper in the wind” speaks of uncertainty, it rekindles my ideas and spirit.
