Isabelle Stanislas

Isabelle Stanislas was born in France in 1970. She is a graduate in architecture of l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Influenced by the work of Tadao Ando, Renzo Piano and Louis Khan, Isabelle Stanislas has developed her “artistic philosophy of structure” over many successful projects. Through manipulating scale, volume and space with inserts of monolithic blocks, Stanislas looks to pacify the area she is working on, whilst always respecting its unique identity. A logical progression from her architectural endeavors, her furniture design expresses her desire to aim at a form of quintessence through simple geometric shapes and a minimalist palette of colors and materials. In Isabelle’s words: “To invent is not to question everything. If we respect heritage, if we understand its codes and values, then we can marry it with modernity without denaturing it. After all, the past, the present and the future have always been the three sides of the same scalene.” In 2018, Isabelle Stanislas was chosen by Le Mobilier National (French national authority regarding state furniture since the 17th century) to renovate the 1,000 square meter formal reception rooms of le Palais de l’Elysée (French Presidential Palace) and bring them into the 21st century. Her monograph was published at Rizzoli’s New York in 2021.
