Description/
Created during numerous sessions of VR sculpting and 3D modeling, Ryan Decker’s Bionic Knees for Atlas lamp reigns as a triumph of the coexistence between traditional industry and digital craft, while also acting as a self-reflective critique of the existence of the object itself. A pair of giant, cyborg legs are lifted on the backs of tiny people, acting as the base of an ethereal glass house acting as a lamp shade, hand blown by a master glass blower. The interplay of the delicate glass with the sturdiness of the cast iron is, for Ryan, a metaphor for the iron workers whose physical labor and toil helped to mill and cast his piece to life.
