“The core reference point for Hansen’s ”Captum Biomorfe” Series is a second-century Roman sculpture of the human body. The re-opening of the revitalized Greek and Roman section at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2007 planted the seeds of what has become an ongoing obsession for Jonathan Hansen and an ongoing inspiration for his future creations.
The Captum Biomorfe vases are part of an evolving series of furniture and lighting editions, each limited to an edition of 12. The collection touches upon the question of captivity and freedom as the master-carvers reveal silhouettes hidden within the blocks of stone.”
