Description/
During the pandemic, fleeting urban ephemera became more permanent. Inexpensive construction materials like snow fences and jersey barriers were repurposed to cordon off outdoor dining sheds and pedestrianize public streets. Improvised spaces took on new functions and new meaning. The byproducts of urban living were co-opted into new programs of leisure.
Continuing in this vein, Barricade Bench was conceived during the pandemic to capture the surprise and delight of urban ephemera.

Jumbo is a design practice that consists of Justin Donnelly, Monling Lee, and Chris Campbell. Together, they produce objects and environments that are guided by an ongoing interest in reductivism and whimsy. As a result, Jumbo’s projects are both technical in execution and joyful in approach. Jumbo has exhibited in New York, Stockholm, Venice, Milan, Buenos Aires, and has been featured in the New York Times, T Magazine, Dezeen, Disegno, and Elle Decor.
