Barometro Table Lamp 2.10 Giallo Siena

Description/

In his Barometro series, Italian sculptor Giacomo Ravagli exhibits marbles with architectural heritage, such as giallo siena which lines the floor of the Duomo di Siena, as abstract sculptures. The bases of his luxurious floor and table lamps are cut from the highest calibre of Italian marble into radical angles, mirrored in the overhead brass lampshades. Just as Michelangelo saw his statues living pre-formed within his marble blocks, so too does Ravagli work away at the stone until he achieves those perfect Renaissance qualities of scale and proportion.

Giacomo Ravagli

designer

"Giacomo Ravagli was born in 1981 in Italy and learned to carve marble in the sculpture workshops of Pietrasanta.

He started carving as an apprentice at age eighteen and spent many years producing religious ornaments and decorations, large outdoor artworks for public spaces, and sculptures for contemporary artists, such as Louise Bourgeois. He also restored monumental pieces, including some by Henry Moore.

His work also alludes to heaviness and lightness and sometimes incorporates clay or metals, such as cast bronze, in addition to marble. Ravagli likes to mix architecture and sculpture. His working method is an exercise in reduction and refinement that follows a reverse design process. "
