Bamboo Weaving Table, Short
Description/
Commissioned by HAN Gallery, Nendo studied the techniques of bamboo handicrafts and proposed the design of this exquisite artwork. Rather than using bamboo itself, Nendo applied bamboo weaving techniques on tubular steel pipes whose production ensures high level of precision.
In this design, three pipes of stainless steel start from the ground up, split evenly at the end into twelve slices and are woven together by hand, which creates a stunning structure that connects the legs and the woven tabletop. Steel slices are joined by wrapping around each other as in bamboo weaving, which gives the hard metal a sense of pliancy.
Because of the shift of the materials, the union of the aged bamboo handicraft and the precision controlled production resulted in a new type of design sensibility until now nonexistent in steel furniture.
