Andy Warhol, Calle Henzel
Limited Edition Rug: Andy Warhol & Calle Henzel Oxidation Painting, 1978 Oxidation Painting, 2021
Description/
A collaboration between Henzel Studio and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, these limited edition rugs are made of silk and wool, utilizing hand-made techniques that date back centuries. Warhol’s Oxidation paintings are abstract explorations of differently shaped stains, intricate color-shifts, and shimmering surfaces. Far removed from his previous works based on photography and silk-screening, these works explore a painterly abstraction reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism. The process in which the paintings were made, by urinating on the canvas and metallic oxidation, suggests a kind of alchemy in which bodily fluids are transformed into images of devastating beauty.
