Description/
The 400 Year Stool, so named due to its ability to be used for generations, is an award winning original designed and made by Eva Mechler. The design is inspired by the shape of a rocking horse that Eva had been sketching for her children’s furniture collection. Constructed in solid wood the stool is made by hand from European Oak and finished with natural plant oils. Each 400 Year Stool is provided with a certificate of authenticity personally signed by Eva Mechler .. Eva’s hand carved initials, the series number, and date of manufacture are discretely applied to the underside of the stool.

Referencing architecture, the natural world, and simple organic forms, she challenges the idea of utility in design by bringing out the unexpected power of everyday objects.
Eva says, “Beauty and life shouldn’t be treated as separate realms. There is a loveliness in quiet, useful objects. I want to celebrate this by taking great care over how they are made. It is a way of showing respect for life itself.”
Though her practice is modernist the golden section is nearly always present in Eva’s work. As Eva says, “I am always aiming for simplicity and usefulness. I use the golden section to find beauty without ornament in design. My work bridges classical and modernist traditions”.
