Studio AMOS

TAET Light, 2023

Price Upon Request

Exhibited at DESIGN MIAMI. 2023 Annemarie’s work is rooted in the ancient craft of basket making; willow connects her to the land and to all of the basket makers who have come before. She uses weaving and binding techniques which have been used for hundreds of years to create domestic objects through to larger architectural woven forms. Working mainly with machined or coppiced wood, willow, straw and hay, Annemarie likes to have her feet on the earth. She makes forms and spaces, which are a response to materials she grows and gathers from the land. The Taet Lamp by Studio Amos was inspired by the ploughed fields which adorn the Orkney Islands. When Annemarie spent time on a residency on the Orkney Islands she found herself drawn to the historical grains grown on Orkney, discovering Rye straw was once used in the hat making industry to make bonnets. The natural strength of the straw, which lent itself well to hat making, inspired Annemarie to use it to produce this dynamic, structural light. Annemarie has crafted the Taet Light by expertly weaving small bundles of sturdy Rye straw (or taets), dressed and gathered in copper ties and assembled over a metal frame. The end result is a unique, sculptural centrepiece which offers a lasting connection to the vibrancy and vitality of the natural world. Materials: rye straw. Diameter (cm): 130.0
