Paul Johnson made his name as director and owner of Phurniture Inc., which he founded in 2001. Johnson understood that collecting a strong inventory of historical, 20th century design would be invaluable to his future as a design gallerist.
Over the past few years Phurniture Inc. has emerged as the leading dealer of designs by Paul Evans. The Gallery featured six Evans pieces, two considered masterpiece works, at the 2007 Design Miami in Basel, Switzerland. It was there that Phurniture re-set the world record for Paul
Evans.
Johnson parlayed his vast knowledgebase of historical design into creating Johnson Trading Gallery, his new contemporary design gallery. Johnson Trading Gallery was established this year in order to further foster collaborative efforts with architects, designers and artists who push the boundaries of traditional furniture making.
