We are pleased to announce Perrier-Jouët as the newest partner of Design Miami/2012. Not only will the acclaimed champagne house be supplying the fair’s Collectors Lounge and special events with Cuvée Belle Epoque champagne, they will also be presenting a unique commission by the London-based design duo Glithero.
The profound Art Nouveau heritage at Perrier-Jouët is clear – the House in Epernay, France contains over 200 works by some of the school’s masters. Glithero, composed of Tim Simpson and Sarah van Gameren, visited the historic Maison Belle Epoque earlier this year in order to draw inspiration for their work. They stand in a long line of artistic collaborations with Perrier-Jouët that have been occurring since 1902.
Speaking of the visit to the House, Tim Simpson described how he was “struck by a sudden change in atmosphere, of ultimate stillness, like entering a parallel world.” It is this impression that he and his partner Sarah are hoping to bring to Design Miami/ 2012 with their salon installation. “We are aiming to bring this feeling of disorientation and timelessness to Design Miami/, to evoke the sense of being so deeply lost in reflection that you question which version of orientation is the truth.”
The experimental environment created by Glithero, with its curvilinear forms and natural motifs, will not only reflect the history of Perrier-Jouët but also the nature-inspired work at this year’s fair. Following Design Miami/ 2012, the work will be permanently displayed at the Maison Belle Epoque, and will stand alongside the works of Emile Gallé, Daniel Arsham, Noé Duchaufour Lawrance and others.
